Greg's Dark Blue 911

Road America - May 26-27, 2001

It wouldn't be a track event at Road America if it wasn't cold and rainy. The good people at PCA Chicago Region did what they could to make this enjoyable. The weather Saturday was forecasted to be rainy but turned out pretty decent but Sunday which was supposed to be the nicer of the two days turned out to be cold, wet and miserable. It was so bad that I cut my day short and left before my last session.

I did get right back into the swing of things and was matching my old lap times within a few warm up laps. I would expect no less considering I have a rebuilt motor and the last time I was here my brakes were regularly overheating. So now with a new motor and 993 rear calipers on the my front wheels I quickly got my lap times down to 2:55.93. I was pretty much well below my previous lap time on all non-rainy laps. What's really amazing is I let my friend Shawn drive my car for one session and he got lap times around 2:49.96 saying that with more time he could have gotten down to 2:46-2:47. That was one wild ride.

There was less carnage than usual this weekend even though it was cold and rainy. Only two cars had any damage and neither appeared very serious. We were all thankful of that. On the other hand there were several minor incidents including Jason running out of braking zone in turn 12 and ending up in the gravel as well as Kurt doing the same thing in turn 1.

Jeremy was having a good 'ol time chasing Bill around the track. We watched the action in group 1 from turn 5. There was some really exciting passing going on between turns 5 and 6.

A quick video of me taking a quick lap around Road America. This is a clean lap where I only pass one car right at the beginning and don't even see another car the rest of the lap.
QuickTime Movie - Approx. 9.7M
RealVideo - 56K modem or faster stream (3 minute 3 seconds)

And finally a bunch of random pictures of cars at the event. I don't know all of these people so drop me a line and say hi if one of these cars is yours.
