Greg's Dark Blue 911

Road America - May 25-26, 2002

It wouldn't be a track event at Road America if it wasn't cold and rainy. Once again sponsored by PCA Chicago Region. The weather forecast called for light showers on Saturday then clearning up late in the day and clear skies on Sunday. That was pretty close. Saturday rained quite hard much of the day. I went out for the first session but I don't enjoy hydroplanning through "the kink" so I gave up after only three laps. Instead my wife and I went to Sheboygan and hung out at the mall and had a long lunch. I ran the last session of the day but it was still pretty wet so I didn't get into my rhythm.

Turns out I never really got my rhythm all weekend. It's been a year since I last drove this track, several months since I drove on ANY track and quite some time since I drove a stick shift on a regular basis. All in all I enjoyed the social aspect but the driving part was very frustrating.

Jeremy was on Kumhos this time instead of his usual Hoosiers and he estimates he's about 2 seconds slower on those. He still had a good time but found them to not be as precise feeling as Hoosiers.

Bill showed up with his newly built 993 based Cup car. It started life as a regular 993 but several months at Midwest Eurosport later it was a mean yellow machine. He thinks it's slightly faster than his prior car, a well prepared 996.

Unlike a typical Road America weekend there was relatively little carnage. There were a couple "incidents" but all were quite minor. Below are the rest of the pictures I took that weekend, mostly of random cars that caught my attenion.
