I'm still working on this page, so please be careful. I am not responsible for any problems you experience as a result of trying to do anything described here. This page describes wiring up a garage door opener to a Porsche switch and installing it in one of the blanks in the Boxster console. This will not work if the car is equipment with heated seats as the blanks will be filled.
In my case, I needed to wire up a two-button Genie Intellicode garage door opener as my alley has a remote controlled gate in addition to the garage. I purchased the remote at Home Depot for around $27. I chose the regular sized model as it uses a 12V battery, so if I ever want to wire it into the car battery, I could do so easily. I then had the remote programmed to both my garage and the gate. The round button opens my garage, the triangular button opens the gate.
First of all, buy the following parts:
- Genie Intellicode Garage Door Opener
- Porsche part# 996 613 134 00 A02. This is a defogger switch. I like this switch as it has an LED that can be wired in to a garage opener's LED to give you positive response. My garage door opener didn't have an LED, so it didn't prove useful yet, but I still intend to hack it to work at some point.
- VW part # 443972995. This is what the switch mounts into to hold it in the console, but I didn't end up using it.
